To be globally competitive, Filipino freelancers have to arm themselves with the right set of skills and knowledge like Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Online Marketing, and Pitching During an Interview.
So after 3 on 3, we started organizing Ready, Set, Optimize between hundreds of cups of coffee, sometimes heated arguments (well, creatives do have quirkier mindsets), Skype and local cafe meetings.
3 on 3 was a tough act to follow. We set a high bar. It was only natural to raise it even higher. And I believe we did, based on the satisfied faces of attendees.
Filipino Freelancers: Ready, Set, Optimize
In my welcome speech, I outlined the reasons why we do what we do. I, together with the team and our generous speakers Glenn Mark Dizon, Jason Dulay and John Pagulayan want to give fellow Filipino freelancers an edge in the world of online freelancing. With millions of online workers nowadays, each virtual coworker must have specialized skills to stand out from the rest.
When long-time remote staff like us were just starting out, we were not aware that Facebook groups like Search Engine Optimization Philippines or Work at Home Pinoys existed. We did time-consuming research whenever we needed new information or techniques. We did not have local mentors to guide us on how we can boost our careers.
Today, Filipino freelancers are lucky to have these groups to turn to. They can ask questions or support from experts on specific niches. TYG and team reach out to these leaders and experts to conduct seminars that Filipino freelancers can benefit from. Note that they do not ask for any money. They have an innate passion to share their acquired knowledge and experience.
Glenn Mark Dizon
I’ve been an SEO Writer for quite some time, but Glenn’s talk definitely wowed all of us with his handy on page-ranking secrets. He did not have slides – he did an actual demonstration on how to do it! He taught us which tools to use not only for page ranking but on how to get those uh-ma-zing 5 -star reviews!
Yes, Glenn is an SEO Expert, hands down. Marvin De Leon loves to call him “That expert from SEOrgao”. (Glenn is a native of Bucas Island Grande in Siargao). If you or your client needs some sound SEO advice, contact him through his website, On Page SEO Services.
Memorable quote: Tuturuan ko kayo kung paano magkaroon ng stars!
Why should a virtual coworker learn online marketing?
Jason says it’s important to know how online marketing business works so that you can see how your efforts directly affect a client’s revenue. People buy from brands they know, like, and trust (KLT).
Let me give you an example. We organize events. Not to brag, but we usually run out of slots a week after we promote them. Why? It’s because Filipino freelancers KNOW who the speakers and organizers are and LIKE what we do. I, for one, receive plenty of thank you messages for doing what we do. Through our groups and Facebook pages, we connect, engage and build relationships with our audience. In the process, TRUST is developed.
Jason also discussed the three stages in a customer life cycle: Awareness, Consideration, Conversion.
Jason will be offering a Master Class on April. Glenn and I have enrolled to The Road to 100K/mo. Join us!
Memorable quote: It takes 12 touches for a person to go from being a prospect to a customer.
The 7-figure freelancer, John Pagulayan, shared a script he uses when pitching an interview. This was actually a continuation of his 3 on 3 talk. He did a demo, then gave tips on how to improve pitching. He also shared insights on the best angles freelancers can use when pitching their specific skills.
Memorable quote: Gusto ko kayong kumita ng malaki.
Thanks to Mr. Miguel Warren, Country Manager of Payoneer, Ms. Valerie Lagarde, Regional Sales Manager of Sunlife Financial, Mr. Jason Dulay, Owner of Work at Home Pinoys, and Ms. Abigail Lim, owner of Alfox for their support. Sa uulitin po… 🙂
